Ubuntu se cuelga o bloquea al cerrar sesion, apagar o reiniciar

Al cerrar sesion, apagar o reiniciar Ubuntu 8.04, la pantalla queda oscura y el equipo no responde.

Probablemente queríamos modificar la resolución de la pantalla y encontramos en Internet que debíamos editar el archivo xorg.conf y eso hicimos.

Para solucionarlo:

Abrimos el archivo xorg.conf:

cd /etc/X11/

... /etc/X11$ gedit xorg.conf

En este archivo vemos un comentario que dice:

# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated

# again, run the following command:

#   sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

pues eso mismo hacemos:

.../etc/X11$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

reiniciamos y ya esta.
